National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day

Sadly, there is such a day, and today, April 10th, is the day that has been set aside “to educate the public about the impact of HIV and AIDS on young people as well as highlight the amazing work young people are doing across the country to fight the HIV & AIDS epidemic,” according to the National Youth Aids Awareness Day Advocates (NYAADA).

According to the NYAADA, more than one million people in the United States are living with HIV and one in five among them is unaware that they have it. Even more alarming, there are 1000 new cases of HIV among youth every month! There is clearly a need for young people to be educated on this issue and for them to be tested if they are sexually active. From my personal viewpoint, the best defense against HIV/AIDS is good old abstinence, until you are married, and monogamy thereafter.
